£50m offer goes public as Sky Sports reveal new details of Newcastle's deadline day bid
As revealed by Sky Sports, Newcastle United had a bid of around £50m for Anthony Elanga rejected by Nottingham Forest on deadline day.
They report that we upped our offer by £15m after our opening bid of £35m was rejected by Forest on Friday, showing how desperate the club were to end the window on a high and bring in a new right-winger.
Forest had been contacted over a potential deadline day move on Friday afternoon and it seems it was a case of too little too late, with the Reds refusing to let on of their star attackers go with no time to sign a replacement.
Newcastle were looking to sign both a new centre-back and right-winger this summer. However, neither arrived and you can't help but wonder if £50m for Elanga would've been an overpay; just as £75m would have been for Marc Guehi.
Elanga could have fit in to Eddie Howe's system nicely as a 22-year-old winger with pace and potential and may be one to watch in future windows.
