Nuno with rare comments on Newcastle and Eddie Howe after 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has heaped praise on the Newcastle United players and Eddie Howe after we beat his side 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The former Wolves boss felt he must ‘give credit to Newcastle’ for the comeback win, describing us as a ‘very good team’ who ‘controlled and punished’ his in-form Forest side, also hailing Eddie Howe and the quality in our side. 

In a classy post-match interview that featured rare praise for the opposition in defeat, Nuno said: "We have to give credit to Newcastle because they were a good team who were able to control us and punish us.

"They are a very good team and a tough team to play against, Eddie Howe is a very talented manager and they have talented players.

“I cannot say it is a bad performance, honestly. They were able to take advantage of some decisions we made when we were rushing our decisions and they punished us on the counter-attack.

“They have pace and they have quality, they were lethal with the chances they had.” 

After some pretty lacklustre performances early on in the season, Howe looks to have got the balance back in the team with the midfield and attack looking a lot more fluid, particularly in the second.

The Forest ground is always an extremely tricky ground to visit but with the form the hosts have been on so far it looked to be an even tough challenge to breach their excellent defence.

However, as Nuno claimed, Newcastle have a ‘very talented manager and talented players’ and we truly have looked back to our best after three wins on the bounce against some top teams.
