Newcastle have "missed the boat" with Miguel Almiron
Newcastle United look to have ‘missed the boat’ on selling Miguel Almiron for more than £10million, according to journalist Craig Hope.
Speaking on YouTube, the Daily Mail journalist answered some questions on a few current topics at Newcastle, with Almiron’s future among the issues discussed after his agent revealed last week that we rejected a £14m offer from MLS side Charlotte FC over the summer.
The Paraguay international had been a regular in Eddie Howe's side for a few seasons, enjoying a purple patch the season we finished fourth and secured a return to the Champions League. However, a season and a half later, he's made just one Premier League start so far this term.
With PSR and player sales now a constant consideration, Newcastle may find themselves under pressure to sell Almiron for below market value soon, with Hope stating that it will be tricky for them to bag more than £10m for the 30-year-old.
“There’ll have to be a realisation with Almiron that they’ve probably missed the boat for bringing in somewhere north of £10million, but we’ll have to wait and see,” Hope explained.
Hope also expects to see some movement with Almiron in January, which would make sense as Newcastle will want sales sooner rather than later to boost our winter budget and avoid any panic sales before next year's PSR deadline at the end of June.
While Almiron has been a good servant to Eddie Howe’s side, he’s not getting any younger and has slipped way down the pecking order on the right. It just makes sense for him to leave in January, albeit for a cut-price fee.
River Plate have been linked with Almiron in recent days and could be one of the clubs to make a move, while clubs in the MLS and Saudi Pro League have been credited with interest previously.
