Newcastle 'planning to make a move' for Sporting Lisbon winger - Report

According to a new report, Newcastle United plan to 'step up their interest' in highly-rated Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda.

This comes from CaughtOffisde, who claim that Newcastle are 'planning to make a move' for the 17-year-old sensation who has caught the eye of several top European sides following his performances in Portugal.

The right-winger is thought to have admirers at Chelsea and Manchester United, with the latter likely to be well aware of his ability now former Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has arrived at Old Trafford.

Newcastle's need for another right-sided attacker is well-documented following links to Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and our failure to strengthen in this department over the summer, although any move for the teenager is likely to be a 'project signing' like Yankuba Minteh or Will Osula; not someone expected to come straight into Eddie Howe's first team.

Quenda has already received a call-up to the Portuguese national side after impressing at U17 and U21 level for his country, although he is yet to make his first appearance under Roberto Martínez.

At club level, he's featured in all four of Sporting Lisbon's Champions League games this season and grabbed an assist in their emphatic 4-1 win over Man City earlier this month.

It's also been a breakthrough season for Quenda in the league, where he's started nine of their opening 11 games, bagging a goal and an assist in the process. Here's the youngster in action:
