Well said, Alan Shearer - Absolutely nails it on Alexander Isak

The constant noise around Alexander Isak's future is becoming pretty tedious, with most discussing where he'll end up in the summer over what Newcastle could go on to achieve with him in the side.

But, every now and then there's a pundit who doesn't mention Arsenal any time the Swede's name comes into the conversation.

Enter Alan Shearer, who has probably summed up the thoughts of most Newcastle fans when discussing Isak alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards this week.

Shearer nails it on Alexander Isak

Speaking on the latest Q&A episode of The Rest is Football, Alan Shearer was asked about man of the moment Alexander Isak, delivering the perfect reply to questions around his future.

Asked by Micah Richards if he'd take £150m for the Swedish international - who has won Premier League Player of the Month for December - he hit the nail on the head.

"No is the answer [I would not take £150m for Alexander Isak]!, Shearer said. "Who are they going to go out and get, who would go into Newcastle and do a similar job? We know that centre-forward is the most important position.

"He is one of the reasons why they are sitting in fifth and in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. What are the fans going to do with the money?"

Richards followed up by asking how much would it take to sell, Shearer wasn't interested. "No, I would absolutely not [sell him for any price]."

"You go out and spend £50-60m on another striker, who, what, where? They are really difficult to find," he explained.

"When you have got a b***** good one, why let them go for any price? If they have got to sell for PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) reasons, there are other players that I would sell, before I sold Isak for £150m."

Top strikers VERY hard to find

It may be stating the obvious, but top strikers don't grow on trees - and we're lucky to have one of the very best in Alexander Isak.

OK, selling up for a record fee would give us a huge financial boost and hand us money to spend from an PSR perspective, but we'd then have to shell out a massive amount to find a replacement, who is unlikely to be as good.

Other areas of the squad could be improved with the money we'd receive, especially if it's a record fee, but he'd be an absolute nightmare to replace and losing him could leave other star men in the squad questioning what direction we're going in.

It won't be easy if we don't get Champions League football soon, but we must build around the best striker in league, not sell him.
