Newcastle contacted over £16m Besiktas deal - Report

What happens in the final 10 days of the January window is anyone’s guess.

We could see nothing but outgoings - the likely outcome, as things stand - but Eddie Howe did recently state that the club had to be “ready for anything.”

With that in mind, the latest transfer link features a formerly linked attacker who we’ve been offered a chance to sign.

£16m deal on offer?

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have been contacted over a potential deal for Besiktas star Semih Kilicsoy

Lee Ryder reports that the 19-year-old forward is available for around £16m, with intermediaries contacting clubs who may be interested in signing the Turkey international.

This isn't the first time Newcastle have been linked, with Turkish outlet Aksam reporting in June that Newcastle and Spurs were due to hold talks with the Super Lig giants after Euro 2024, where the teenager represented his national team.

Kilicsoy can operate out wide or up front, with the majority of his starts this season split across the left wing (15 appearances) and centre-forward (12 appearances).

In those games, he's managed two goals and six assists, with three of those goal involvements coming in seven Europa League outings.

Players 'offered' rarely sign

There has been previous links involving Newcastle and Kilicsoy and he may tick boxes as a versatile teenager who appears to be highly-rated, but it's rare that players 'offered' actually sign.

Newcastle not only seem to have their hands tied this month due to PSR and the need to sell first, but also very specific targets who have to fit into Eddie Howe's way of playing.

I get the feeling that opportunistic signings will only be pursued if they fit the right profile - age, style and potential - and have been extensively tracked by the club.

Paul Mitchell is clearly keen on 'project signings' who can come in for low fees and turn into future stars, but £16m isn't peanuts and I imagine the bulk of our available funds in 2025 will go on a quality right-winger and young centre-back instead.
