Tottenham in talks to sign £55m Newcastle target on early agreement - Report

It's been a frustrating January so far, with outgoings and PSR issues dominating the headlines once again.

As we reported yesterday, financial rules appear to have tied our hands and that has been costly, with The Athletic revealing that we had done a lot of groundwork on Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis - only for Man City to step in while we were unable to make a bid.

That's two centre-backs we've been forced to 'miss out' on and it seems a heavily linked right-winger could be the next.

Toon rival in talk to sign Dibling?

Now, according to The Telegraph, it seems another of our 'big six' rivals are attempting to sign a player thought to be high on Newcastle's list of right-wing targets.

Senior reporter Matt Law reveals that Spurs chiefs are looking to back an under-fire Ange Postecoglou with January additions and are pushing to wrap up a deal or Southampton star Tyler Dibling.

He reports that Spurs would ideally like to sign the 18-year-old winger this month, but are also working on securing an early agreement that sees him arrive at the North London club at the end of the season.

Price tag a problem?

This time last week, Sky Sports reported that Southampton are demanding a whopping £55m for the teenager.

That may be the January premium and £10-15m more than the Saints would ask at the end of the season, but it seems there are a number of clubs vying for his signature after a breakthrough season at St. Mary's.

Sky report that, alongside Spurs, there is interest from Aston Villa, Chelsea and Bundesliga size RB Leipzig, suggesting we'll face fierce competition whether we make a late January move (which appears unlikely) or pursue Dibling in the summer.
