Two Newcastle targets score on bonkers night in Champions League – Watch goals here

In a chaotic night of Champions League action that saw 18 games all kick off at 8pm, a couple of reported Newcastle targets impressed on Europe's biggest stage.

To all of our frustration, it seems no new signings will be arriving between now and next Monday's deadline, but plenty of talk has centered around who the club could target heading into a huge summer transfer window for the club.

It's thought Paul Mitchell is keen to pursue value-for-money options overseas due to the premium attached to so many Premier League stars, and he'd have been impressed last night as targets in the Netherlands and France found the net.

Bakayoko scores beauty vs Liverpool

Last month, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards reported that PSV star Johan Bakayoko has emerged as a key target at Newcastle United.

He revealed that the 21-year-old had 'featured prominently' in transfer meetings and that there was a unanimous agreement amongst our recruitment team that he could be the man to target. However, Edwards did add that a January deal would be tough to complete.

That has proved to be true, with his agent recently stating that the Belgian will "not leave" PSV this season, "regardless of the amount" offered, but it seems he could be high on Newcastle's list of right-winger options heading into the summer.

Last night, Bakayoko scored his second Champions League goal of the league phase in brilliant fashion, (watch at 1:20 below), seeing him sit down two Liverpool defenders before finishing emphatically:

David continues stunning form

After his latest Champions League strike last night, Jonathan David is now the joint fourth top scorer in this season's competition with six goals in eight games.

It's been widely reported that Newcastle are big fans of the Canadian, with The Athletic, The Mail's Craig Hope and The Chronicle all confirming recently that we've sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old on several occasions.

With 19 goals and seven assists already this season, we'll face fierce competition for his signature this summer, especially as he'll be available on a free transfer after opting against a new deal with Lille.

The Ligue 1 side battered Feyenoord 6-1 last night to book their place in the knockout stages and David came off the bench to score again (watch goal at 3:20 below), finishing superbly after cutting in on his left foot:
