Agent claims “Newcastle would be a good destination” for £50m winger
Newcastle United would be a “good destination” for one of their key targets over the last few windows as transfer talk continues on Tyneside.
The club will be in a strong position to buy this summer from a PSR perspective after making several sales, with Newcastle ready to invest in their squad, according to reports, after three windows without a first team signing.
January-linked Johan Bakayoko is thought to be a standout candidate, and he is not the only winger once considered a non-starter who could yet move to the Magpies - with an agent naming Newcastle as an ideal move for a fellow target.
Agent backs Mbeumo to join Toon
Newcastle would be a “good destination” for £50m-rated Bryan Mbeumo, with Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in the winger, according to Cameroonian agent and consultant for CRTV Sports, Romuald Eteki.
The African agent insisted this week that Newcastle would be a better home for his countryman than the red half of Merseyside and North London in a recent talk with Africa Foot:
“Bryan Mbeumo has many suitors this season, thanks to his performances. The names of Liverpool, to compensate for a future departure of Salah, or Arsenal are often mentioned.
“However, I think Newcastle would be a good destination for him. First of all, he would pass an obvious level. Newcastle has been fighting for European places for two years, which is not the case for Brentford.
“In addition, at Newcastle, he would certainly arrive in the shoes of an undisputed starter because on the right side of the team, there is not a player who stands out.
“However, at Arsenal where Saka is unshakeable on the right or at Liverpool where succeeding Salah, the best player in the championship, the expectations would therefore be very high. Which can add additional pressure.”
He makes a valid point. Arsenal’s current attacking woes will eventually subside and Saka will return to the starting XI, not to mention the fact 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri has also proved to be a quality option down that right.
Ongoing contract talks at Liverpool mean Salah may yet stay at the Reds, while Mbeumo would do well to displace star man Saka from his position on the right.
Given Mbeumo’s abilities, you can see why he is being advised to find a home he is likely to start in, rather than join a 'big six' side and struggle for a starring role.
Perfect signing to improve right wing?
Jacob Murphy has enjoyed his best season in a black-and-white shirt with five goals and nine assists on his record for 2024/25 but, at 29-years-old it’s unlikely the former Norwich man is considered unable to be improved upon.
Mbeumo is the perfect option to improve the right side of our attack, with his 14 goals in the Premier League already this season proving the direct threat on goal he provides. A front three of the Cameroonian, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon threatens from all angles.
The 25-year-old is contracted until 2027 and Brentford have no real need to sell. With competition from Premier League rivals likely, Mbeumo won’t come cheap this summer, but it does seem likely that he opts to leave for European football ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
