Four stinkers, a 1/10 and two 7s - Player ratings from Newcastle 1-2 Brighton

Dubravka (6) - One huge save from Gomez but should’ve leathered the ball away in the build up to Brighton’s winner.

Trippier (5.5) - Handled Mitoma well but was fairly ineffective in attack. Wasteful from the few set pieces he took and was replaced on corner duty by Gordon.

Schar (3) - Thought he had the winner at the end of normal time but was correctly ruled out for offside. But that would’ve glossed over another extremely below par performance from him. Passing range has deserted him and he looked like he was running in quicksand for the opening goal. All over the shop and committed a few stupid fouls.

Burn (5) - Some crucial blocks and interceptions as we have come to expect from big Dan Burn, but was dragged out of position for the goal. Fizzed a shot wide late on and actually whipped in a couple of decent crosses

Livramento (6) - Deployed at left back and right back and was largely solid but played Welbeck onside for the winner. He was fatigued at that stage but still poor awareness.

Miley (5.5) - Never really looked comfortable today and misplaced some simple passes. Bright talent but not at his best today

Tonali (7) - He was everywhere. Was poor in the Liverpool game but showed all his attributes today. Had to do a lot of defending to cover the lack of pace in the centre of defence. A little sloppy at times, as most were, but his energy levels stood out among a lethargic bunch.

Joelinton (5.5) - Rusty. Good to get some minutes under his belt and he brought some much needed bite to the midfield. Was given 55min and will be better for the run

Barnes (4) - Given an opportunity and failed to impress. With Gordon suspended he needs to find his form and fast. The carrot of a Wembley appearance and his favoured left flank means he needs to perform. Opportunity to be an unlikely hero?

Gordon (1) - Stupid. So, so stupid. Can have no complaints about the red card. The referee had already stopped play so there was no reason to get involved. Noticeably given the cold shoulder when leaving the pitch. Has made a difficult cup final even harder. Lowest mark of the season as he's cost us on a couple of fronts there!

Isak (7.5) - That penalty was much more convincing than his last one! Had another chalked off for offside and was a thorn in the side of the Brighton defence all game. The one attacker of ours who was taking responsibility and showing quality, in the build up or the final third. Worryingly received treatment and came off just after the sending off.

Subs:

Willock (4) - Such a frustrating player. Equally as likely to dribble around two players and look a world beater as he is to miss a header from three yards out, as he did today! Tried but never looked confident or likely, often slowing down and looking lost after getting himself into good positions.

Guimaraes (6.5) - Better from Bruno compared to his recent performances. Played some lovely passes but still gets caught on the ball too often.

Murphy (4) - Was dispossessed on more than one occasion and his delivery wasn’t the best. Is a very one dimensional winger but if that dimension isn’t firing then he doesn’t offer much else

Wilson (5) - Not sure how many times he touched the ball but when playing against a low block it negates his main attribute which is playing off the shoulder of the last man. Time for an upgrade

Targett (5) - One suicidal giveaway nearly led to a goal but offered some much needed balance in attack, although his deliveries were mixed. Steady back up option but we missed Hall, but looked unsurprisingly rusty.
