Darren Eales responds to "crazy" transfer talk and reveals summer action plan
Darren Eales has delivered some exciting news for Newcastle fans, insisting that the club is not looking to sell star striker Alexander Isak - or any other key players - anytime soon.
The comments, which have coincided with the Magpies releasing their financial statements for the year, hint that the club is in a healthy enough financial position where they won’t be forced to sell a big name like Isak to a potential rival.
Eales has also revealed that the club will revisit the idea of extending Isak’s contract, strongly emphasising that the Sweden holds a long term commitment to Newcastle for the time being.
Eales makes stance clear on sales
In an chat with the local media, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has assured fans that the club won’t be looking to sell any of its big names any time soon.
His latest quotes are a welcome contrast to those released last year, when our CEO reluctantly hinted at the need to trade for PSR reasons.
However, it seems our financial position is much improved and have ZERO intention to lose any of our star men, as Eales explains below.
“We're not under the gun or anything like that. We've got an ownership that is ambitious and wants the best for the club. So, from that perspective, it'd be crazy for us to consider it (potentially selling big players).”"We're in a position now, where because we were able to move a couple of players in January that weren't really impacting on minutes on the pitch, we’ve got that wish and desire to keep our key players."They’re all under long-term contracts. With the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and even Tino Livramento all linked with moves to a host of 'big six' sides, it shows a clear sign of intent for a member of the club’s hierarchy to make such a declarative statement.
Isak contract talks to be revisited
Alexander Isak is obviously the star of the show this season at Newcastle: arguably the club’s best footballer since the heyday of Alan Shearer, few can deny that it would take a monumental fee for the Toon to even consider selling the former Sociedad striker.
Keen to lock down Isak for more years to come, Eales has confirmed Newcastle will be looking to extend Isak’s contract during end-of-season negotiations planned for the summer:
“We’re going to be clear – he (Isak) has multi years left. We will have the discussions in terms of a new deal, just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno or Anthony Gordon."That's something that we will approach in the summer.”
Isak currently sits as one of the highest paid players at the club, and with a deal that won’t expire until 2028, we can look forward to at least another two seasons of prolific, near unparalleled goalscoring at St James’ Park.
