Newcastle's right-winger search - Six targets and £70m price tag revealed in new report

Earlier this month, we reported on a piece from The Telegraph that discussed PIF's big plans for Newcastle United, which included their determination to strengthen Eddie Howe's squad in 'every department' this summer.

It's believed a goalkeeper, centre-back, right-winger and striker will be targeted, although one of those positions has been discussed but never addressed for Howe's entire tenure on Tyneside so far; the right wing.

With that in mind, it's interesting to see Mark Douglas' latest piece for the i this week, where a number of targets were revealed by the North-East reporter.

Four domestic targets and two overseas options?

Despite Jacob Murphy's strong form this season and the fact he'll remain a big part of Howe's squad heading into 2025/26, Newcastle will make the signing of a new right-winger one of our top priorities this summer.

And, according to Mark Douglas at the i, there are several domestic options being considered, alongside a few European talents on Paul Mitchell's radar.

Starting wit the Premier League options, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo is liked but has been valued at a whopping £70m, while Southampton have gone with a similar approach with fellow target Tyler Dibling, quoting £100m to interested parties in hope of sparking a summer bidding war.

15-goal Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is another option Newcastle are 'keen on' and the Bees are fully expecting bids, although it's believed Anthony Elanga - who we tried to sign on deadline day last summer - will be even tougher to sign now Nottingham Forest are odds on to secure a top four and with it Champions League football.

Moving abroad, Douglas wrote earlier this week that PSV's Johan Bakayoko remains one of our 'ambitious' targets, although he is one of several who has indicated a desire to play in the Champions League next season.

Then there is Francisco Trincao of Sporting Lisbon, who has impressed the club's recruitment team and on the lookout for a return to the Premier League, giving Newcastle potential encouragement to make a move for the 25-year-old Portuguese international who scored a brace for his country this week.

Elsewhere, Chelsea's Noni Madueke was linked once again this week, while Monaco's French sensation Maghnes Akliouche is thought to be another talented option we've sent scouts to watch.

Who's likely to sign?

It's too early to say which right-winger Newcastle will commit to in March, but the smart money would be away from Dibling and Semenyo if both South Coast clubs stand by their valuations of £100m and £70m, respectively.

Mbeumo could depart at £50m, according to The Chronicle, but that seems like wishful thinking after another prolific season for the Bees, though he does have only one year left on his deal with the option of a 12-month extension.

I wouldn't be surprised if we looked abroad should domestic options continue to demand such a premium, although the right wing could be the one area we look at add talent with Premier League experience, with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes previously recruited from Everton and Leicester.
