Laughable reports from Italy regarding Sandro Tonali swap deal

The Italian media has done its fair share to try to unsettle Sandro Tonali since the midfielder arrived at Newcastle.

More reports have came out of the 24-year-old’s home nation as chatter about the midfield maestro, who signed from AC Milan in the summer of 2023 for £52m.

Juventus are interested in signing Tonali, that much at least appears to be true. However, the suggested transfer fee coming out the Italian press surely wouldn’t meet Newcastle’s valuation.

It gets even better as an outlet suggests that we send them Tonali in a swap deal, for a player that would replace a different Mag star that is unlikely to leave this summer.

Italian media embarrassingly suggest Tonali swap

Brace yourselves. Newcastle could be interested in swapping Sandro Tonali for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz + €30m, but only if we first sell Bruno Guimaraes to Manchester City - a genuine statement from Get Football News Italy.

Luiz is yet to play 800 minutes of football since moving to Juve from Aston Villa in the summer for a fee in the region of £50m, with the Italian outlet claiming that Newcastle see the out-of-favour midfielder as an option to replace club captain Bruno G.

In return, Juventus also get Tonali. It would hardly be shrewd, calculated business from sporting director Paul Mitchell to put it lightly. A totally staggering suggestion of a transfer merry-go-round that is hard to wrap your head around.

A low valuation of Tonali

A separate source in the Italian media has claimed Newcastle would want between £60-70m to agree to sell Tonali while appearing on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.

That was according to Italian transfer expert Matteo Moretto, which seems a low estimate considering Tonali arrive for just shy of the bottom end of that figure.

Moretto said : “Juventus has put its own desires [to sign] Sandro Tonali.

“Juventus has identified in Tonali the ideal player to entrust the key of their midfield of the future because of his personality, leadership and technical qualities.

“But it is also fair to say that for Newcastle there is no decision on the future of Tonali because Newcastle is fighting to go to the achampions Newcastle will ask a lot for Tonali, it will ask €70-80million [£60-68.5million] but today we do not know what is the decision from Newcastle on Tonali.

“But it will not be easy because Newcastle is a very difficult club to deal with. It is fair to say that for Juventus [Tonali] is a priority goal but it is also correct to say that the road to do and then to arrive at the purchase of Tonali is still very steep because you have to understand Newcastle’s stance on Tonali.”
