New signing due on Tyneside as Newcastle plan 'at least' three major additions

In his first full summer transfer window on Tyneside, Paul Mitchell has a huge opportunity to make his mark at Newcastle United over the comings months.

A potentially transformative summer has been talked up now our PSR position has improved, with a mixture of first-team ready stars and 'project players' expected to arrive.

Both senior and youth signings are being worked on by Mitchell and an update on both has arrived this afternoon via Mark Douglas at The i.

Spaniard due on Tyneside

Newcastle have won the race to sign Malaga sensation Antonio Cordero, who is expected on Tyneside soon.

As revealed by North East reporter Mark Douglas, the 18-year-old Spanish youth international is due in Newcastle in early June to complete the formalities of a free transfer.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last month that the winger has opted to join Newcastle, despite rival interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, and it's believed Paul Mitchell has played a key role in brokering that deal.

Much like Vakhtang Salia - the 18-year-old Georgian forward set to arrive from Dinamo Tiblisi  - Cordero is likely to go straight out on loan to continue his development at senior level.

"At least" three major signings expected

Douglas also offered an update on Newcastle's plans to bolster Eddie Howe's starting 11 ahead of the 2025/26 season, which are thought to be "well underway."

He reports that Newcastle are planning to bring in “at least” three "first-team ready" players, with moves for a right winger, centre-back and striker the current priorities.

That won't be all, however, as the club plan more 'player trading' to open up the possibility of 'one or two more' arriving, with a goalkeeper and further depth in midfield also required to handle the demands of European football.

Newcastle's hierarchy realise the importance of strengthening a squad in need of fresh blood, greater depth and an injection of quality in certain areas, with early deals also 'one to watch' as we look to exploit Premier League rivals who must sell before the June 30th deadline to avoid PSR sanctions.
