Emotional Eddie Howe surprises NHS staff - Watch heartwarming moment after health scare

After our rollercoaster of a season, full of jubilant highs like the return of Sandro Tonali and the Carabao Cup triumph, we've now seen one of the more emotional ones come to a heartwarming conclusion.

Back in April, right before our big game against Manchester United, we learned that Eddie Howe had been hospitalised for what would later be a serious bout of pneumonia.

Howe missed three big league games and looks to have only recently fully recovered from the infection, thanks to the helpful workers at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) hospital.

And now the gaffer has personally thanked the team who helped treat him, showing his immense gratitude and even some gifts for the NHS staff.

Howe reflects on emotional hospital spell

In footage courtesy of the Premier League, Howe joined former keeper Shay Given on a trip to the RVI, in the City Centre, to meet the doctors and nurses in attendance.

Reflecting on his pneumonia ordeal, Howe opened up on how his health has steadily improved over the past few weeks, and initially finding out that he would be sent to the hospital over how serious his situation became.

"I am feeling pretty good. Every day I feel stronger." An immensely assuring thing to hear from Howe at such a crucial point of the campaign.

"I was seen to straight away and was diagnosed really quickly with pneumonia and the scan has come back with something on it. And that treatment would start straight away."

Managers meets with staff in heartwarming scenes

Amongst the staff who treated Howe was a season ticket holder, who admitted just how nervous he was taking care of the team's own manager, even recounting "I was quite anxious treating you, making sure you..." which was met with great laughter and appreciation by Howe.

But perhaps the best moment of the video comes with Howe on a video call with his consultant, a dedicated Burnley fan, who Howe of course managed back in the 2011-12 campaign.

Gifting Charlotte a Clarets shirt, and inviting her to attend St James' Park when we host Burnley next season, Howe began to get choked up in the conversation.

"Just for a massive thank you for how you and your team looked after me. Really grateful...I'm getting a bit emotional!"
