Watch Antonio Cordero's goal and assist as Spain win again at Under-19 EUROs
The Under-19 EUROs are underway and it’s a big opportunity to shine for a number of future stars, with new signing Antonio Cordero being one of them as he lines up for Spain.
After a solid if uneventful opening win for Spain against Denmark, the reigning champions were back in action last night and the 18-year-old did not disappoint.
Thankfully, Cordero was there to deliver for Paco Gallardo’s side, and put them in pole position to qualify from Group A, where they could potentially face England in the semi-finals…

Coming into Monday night’s game, Spain scraped past Denmark 1-0 courtesy of an own goal, in a game where Cordero did play a full 90 minutes.
But there was to be no slow start against Romania, however, as the former Malaga star struck inside three minutes to open the scoring.

After the Romanian keeper Rafael Munteanu was beaten to a loose ball by Jano Monserrate, the midfielder found Cordero unmarked in the box to slide the ball into the net for the opener.
And soon it was Cordero’s turn to play creator, as he later assisted Spain’s second goal of the night: delivering a pinpoint cross to meet the glancing header of Jon Martin to make it 2-1, which you can watch below:

It eventually finished 3-1, and any doubts about Spain’s position of being pre-tournament favourites were eased largely thanks to a big performance from our new man in black and white.
Newcastle youngsters continue to shine
Across both the U-19 and U-21 EUROs, you could make a strong case that our players have enjoyed collectively enjoyed the best campaigns seen so far.
Cordero’s goal and assist today, coupled with Tino Livramento’s standout showings for England U-21s and Will Osula’s clutch contributions for Denmark U-21s show the future is very much bright on Tyneside for each member of the trio.
Cordero still has one more group game left to play against bottom side Montenegro, though Spain are assured of topping their group by virtue of having a superior head to head record against both Romania and Denmark, so we know for a fact we’ve not seen the last of Cordero for this campaign…
