Newcastle very close to first major signing of 2025 - Great news on Monday morning
It was a weekend of conflicting claims and disappointment on the transfer front.
The Joao Pedro saga quickly went south, quite literally, as Chelsea swooped in and agreed a deal to sign the Brighton forward, while there was mixed updates on James Trafford.
The Telegraph's Luke Edwards said a deal for the 22-year-old goalkeeper was 'pretty much done', but Sky Sports' Keith Downie insisted there was still 'work to do' after a bid worth £27m was turned down by Burnley.
Fast forward to Monday morning and Fabrizio Romano has delivered a hugely promising update, claiming the final details are now being sorted between Newcastle and Burnley with an agreement 'almost done.'
Writing on X, he said: 'Newcastle are closing in on James Trafford deal, final details being sorted!
'Agreement almost done with Burnley and then it will be here we go. Newcastle are planning to get the deal done very soon.'
Romano has previously revealed that Trafford wants the move and has already agreed on all personal terms, suggesting it's a matter of time until this one gets wrapped up now an agreement over a transfer fee appears to be imminent.
