Newcastle's rivals move for Yoane Wissa as Toon discuss surprise striker bid

We saw a surprise new transfer link emerge last night, as The Mail's Craig Hope reported on a potential move for Yoane Wissa.

After previous interest in Brentford teammate Bryan Mbeumo, who proved too expensive, and our March exclusive on Toon scouts tracking the impressive Nathan Collins, Wissa appears to be the third Bees star on our radar.

Hope reported that Wissa has been discussed in recruitment meetings as a potential replacement for the released Callum Wilson, claiming he was one to 'keep an eye on.'

However, BBC Sport has revealed today that 'big six' rivals Spurs are now pushing to sign the 28-year-old striker.

After 31 goals in his last two Premier League seasons under Thomas Frank, it's believed the new Tottenham boss is hoping to bring the Congo striker to North London.

The BBC's Sami Mokbel reports that Wissa is open to joining Spurs, who are thought to be weighing up the finances required to sign the versatile forward who can play up top and out wide.

Sky Sports state that Spurs have held long-term interest, but are yet to make contact or launch a bid, suggesting Newcastle still have time to step in should we be serious about signing Brentford's star striker.

Nottingham Forest had a £22m bid rejected for Wissa back in January, but it remains to be seen how much he would cost, especially if Mbeumo does seal a £60m-plus switch to Man Utd in the coming weeks.
