Official update on Tonali, Joelinton & Schar ahead of Leeds vs Newcastle - Good news!
Newcastle United have issued their first official update on Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Fabian Schar after all three suffered injury scares earlier this week.
It was a brutal Monday night in more ways than one, as we not only lost Anthony Gordon to a red card and three-game ban, but a trio of key players to injury.
Tonali (shoulder) and Joelinton (groin) were forced off in pain, while Schar took a blow to the head, and we've finally received word from Eddie Howe on how they are all doing ahead of tomorrow's trip to Leeds.
The good news is that Tonali is "battling to be fit" and could yet play, while Schar is available after following concussion protocols, despite initial doubts he would be forced to sit out.
Joelinton is out, but the "scan was good" and Howe expects the Brazilian to be back after the international break, giving him a strong chance of making our home clash with Wolves two weeks tomorrow.
Discussing all of the above, Howe said:
"Relatively good news on both players [Sandro Tonali and Joelinton], when they left the pitch we feared they may be out long-term.
"Joey’s scan was good but he will miss this weekend, we'll hopefully get him back for the game after the international break.
"Sandro's injury isn’t serious, he is battling to be fit for tomorrow.
"Fabian Schär is available. We followed concussion protocols, he will be fine to play."
A huge relief on Tonali and Joelinton, a relief for Schar and, with big Joe out tomorrow, a big chance for Jacob Ramsey to take his chance on the left side of our midfield three after he impressed in Monday's cameo.
With Hall fit again, Botman back, Thiaw signed and Osula scoring on Monday, we have plenty of options heading to Elland Road, even if Woltemade is unlikely to feature.
