"That is a joke!" - Jamie Carragher nails it on Nick Woltemade and Newcastle nonsense

Nick Woltemade is enjoying a superb start to life at Newcastle United.

Sunday's stunning penalty meant he's now scored four goals in five starts for the club, but he's offered much more than that with his top-class link-up play and presence in attack.

He's been a revelation since sealing a £69m move from Stuttgart, yet it hasn't stopped Bayern Munich chiefs taking several bizarre swipes at the player they tried to sign over the summer, with board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge the latest to get involved.

Rummenigge called Newcastle "idiots" for paying £69m for the striker, and his comments have now been condemned on Sky Sports by Jamie Carragher, who has hit the nail on the head with his assessment.

Carragher has branded the Bayern chief a "joke" for speaking so unprofessionally about a fellow German player, questioning why the most respected club in Germany are being so disrespectful.

"I really like him and I actually saw that quote a few days ago and it angered me and I am not a Newcastle United supporter," said Carragher after yesterday's 2-0 win on Sky Sports.

"I think that is a joke, really, coming from someone who is part of a football club, in terms of Bayern Munich, a really respected football club.

"He shouldn't be speaking about, especially, another German player like that so disrespectfully. That would have been all over the news in Germany and his family and friends are there.

"That is our job, we are pundits, not somebody who is associated with such a fantastic club. That is really disrespectful and when I saw that I thought: 'Do you know what? I really hope that lad shoves those words down his mouth'.

"And at the start of his Premier League career, it looks like he is going to do."

Spot on from Carragher, who echoes the thoughts of Newcastle fans in hoping Woltemade silences his critics at Bayern by continuing to produce the goods for Newcastle United!
