Sammy Pinnington signs Newcastle United deal
Developing talent and tying down potential future stars is a key part of Newcastle United's ever-improving Academy and there is news of another deal this week.
Newcastle have confirmed that teenager Sammy Pinnington, having turned 17-years-old, has signed his first professional contract at the club.
Pinnington, who was signed from Luton Town in August 2023, has risen through the ranks and looks set to play a big part for the U-18s squad this season.
But the winger has even bigger ambitions, with the long-term goal of making the first team and impressing Eddie Howe looking to be on his to-do list.
With the drive to succeed, and with the backing of academy director and club hero Steve Harper, Pinnington could be the next great academy product here in the North East.
Pinnington reveals first-team goal
The club academy has produced some true stars in recent years, with Elliot Anderson, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley being the most notable examples, with England caps, Champions League nights and big moments a plenty.
Pinnington will be hoping to become the next big name to emerge from the system in Little Benton, and seems incredibly keen on playing for us as our trajectory only goes further and further upward.
“The club has got great staff, facilities and I like the journey that the club is going on at the moment."I've been here since 14 and they've helped me in so many ways, especially after moving up away from home so I didn't want to go anywhere else.”
“I'm aiming to play for the first-team at St. James' Park - that's an ambition in the long-term future - and something I really want to do.”
Harper: Pinnington “fully deserves” contract
Having only just recovered from a hamstring injury, Pinnington only has two assists to his name so far this season.
But it’s a testament to our faith that he will succeed that Steve Harper has personally backed the youngster to flourish now he’s signed his professional contract and pledged his future to playing on Tyneside.
“Signing his first professional contract is an important milestone for Sammy and one he fully deserves after the progress he has made throughout his time in the Academy.”
With a drive to succeed and undeniably positive attitude that Howe and the senior team will love, the sky looks to be the limit for Pinnington if he can showcase his ability for the U-18s, U-21s and hopefully the first team in the near future.
“Sammy has approached his development with real focus and professionalism, reflecting the standards we look for in young players preparing for the next step in their career.”
“We look forward to supporting him as he continues to grow and challenge himself within a demanding and supportive setting.”
