Triple boost? - Keith Downie reveals good news from Newcastle camp this morning
There is some good news to share from the Newcastle United training ground today.
As we build towards the return of Premier League action, with Man City coming to St James' Park on Saturday, Sky Sports' Keith Downie has shared a positive update on three Newcastle stars.
The North East reporter has revealed that Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope were all present at the training ground this morning.
Tonali did not play in Italy's 4-1 defeat to Norway on Monday night, while Gordon (hip) and Pope (concussion) both pulled out of the England squad through injury.
However, Downie reports that there is hope all three will be able to play this weekend, despite Howe stating last night that Gordon was 'touch and go' for the match on Saturday.
Tino Livramento has been targeting the Man City fixture and could return to the squad, but there will be no Yoane Wissa once again, as confirmed by Howe on Tuesday night.
Speaking at the Newcastle United Foundation Awards Dinner last night, Howe said: “We have a bit of a mixed bag. Anthony [Gordon] we will wait and see, it will be touch and go for the [Manchester City] game.
Sandro [Tonali] should be fine. Nick [Pope] had concussion but he has passed the protocols there, so he should be fine.
“We have still got a few who we are nursing back. Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall in the early stages – although he has made a couple of really good appearances. Yoane Wissa is still out but starting to up his work now. So yeah, we are looking in a healthier place.”
