Newcastle set to be offered £20m bargain - A January gem to fix problem position?

After a few too many toothless performances this season, Eddie Howe could do with one or two attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window.

With the exception of a couple of Jacob Murphy crosses, some patchy form from Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon's tendency to follow one lively display with a few stinkers, we just aren't getting enough out of our wingers, with Anthony Elanga really struggling since his £50m switch from Nottingham Forest.

Fresh blood is needed, and it looks like one talented option may be on the market.

City star emerges on Toon radar

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Man City winger Oscar Bobb is on Newcastle's transfer radar, as the Norwegian winger faces an uncertain future in Manchester.

A £20m deal may be on offer in the New Year, although there is no shortage of rival interest, with German giants Borussia Dortmund linked with a loan move.

With the excellent form of Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku this season, competition for places under Pep Guardiola has become incredibly intense, opening the door for Bobb to depart.

And now City could offload youngster, who may see his game time reduced even further at the Etihad now Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo looks set to sign.

We know full well the threat that Bobb poses, as perhaps his finest moment in the Premier League came when he scored a stoppage time winner in a tense 3-2 defeat at St James’ Park a few seasons ago.

Another winger needed

In addition to their current poor run of form, we are running the risk of seeing our depth out wide become depleted in the near future.

Jacob Murphy isn’t getting any younger, as he turns 31 later this season, whilst Anthony Gordon's future is one to watch given his patchy form and long-standing interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

Mix that with Barnes, 28, and an out of sorts Elanga, and it feels like there is room for another young winger to freshen up what's become a seriously underperforming part of our squad.

Normally, we would be campaigning for our transfer team to look outside the Premier League for hidden gems, and you should more often than not be wary of players that Pep Guardiola is willing to sell.

But in the case of Oscar Bobb, this is a serious talent who has been hindered by injury and a lack of regular starts. As one of the most talented young wingers in Europe when afforded the opportunity, £20m could be an absolute steal if there is room for another wide man.
