Official injury update on Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle duo missing at Spurs

Newcastle ended their run of five games without a win last night, picking up all three points at Spurs in a tight but thoroughly deserved victory.

We couldn’t leave North London completely unscathed, however, as captain Bruno Guimaraes was forced off in the final few minutes with a suspected injury concern.

Having only just returned last week from an ankle issue picked up in last month's 3-0 win over PSV, there were initially fears that the Brazilian had re-aggravated his previous injury, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

Instead, Eddie Howe has revealed that Bruno is a "little bit worried" that he's suffered a hamstring injury, with the boss concerned that it is a muscle issue and not cramp.

“I’m not sure how he is, but I think he’s a little bit worried.

"He’s said he’s never had a problem with his hamstrings before, so is it cramp or was it a muscle problem?

“It probably feels like it was more of an injury to me, but let’s wait and see.

"We’re trying to stay positive at this moment.”

So it’s looking unlikely that Bruno will make the trip to Villa Park on Saturday, and it seems that another pair of midfield stars won’t either, as Howe bemoaned the continued absence of Lewis Miley and Joelinton, giving no indication that the pair will be back this weekend.

“We’re missing Lewie massively. He’s a huge player for us, and so of course is Joelinton in our midfield. They’re two high-level players.

“We’ve spoken many times about the defensive injuries that we’ve had this season – we just hope we haven’t lost Bruno. That would be the real negative of the night.”

If Bruno, Miley and Joelinton all miss out this weekend, Howe suddenly has a limited pool of midfielders to pick from in Tonali, Ramsey and Willock, limiting our rotation options in a relentless run that includes three more away games in the next 10 days.

Fingers crossed Joelinton and Miley return soon and that Bruno's issue is minor, if not cramp, and not the hamstring issue Howe was left fearing after the game.
