Assan Ouedraogo being closely monitored by Newcastle
Newcastle United were in the mix to sign Assan Ouedraogo last year, but the teenager wanted to remain in Germany.
Quite often, when Newcastle gets a player in its sights, they tend not to let go until they feel that a move would be impossible, and it's being reported that Assan Ouedraogo could potentially be on the move again in the summer.
In 2024, Newcastle were tracking the then 17-year-old Ouedraogo after his breakthrough at Schalke 04, but the youngster was hesitant to move countries and ultimately made a switch to RB Leipzig.
He made only five senior appearances in his first season at Leipzig, but he's broken through a bit more this term and has made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists from his central midfield position.
Newcastle are the 'most serious suitors' for Ouedraogo
A report from German outlet Fussballdaten has now claimed that Newcastle are the 'most serious suitors' to take him away from Leipzig, who value the 19-year-old at €50 million (£43.2m).
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also thought to be keen on Ouedraogo, who has already made his debut for the German national senior side after representing them at every level.
There are rumours that a release clause could be in effect in the summer, and if that ends up being below the current asking price, we could see Newcastle make their move.
Assan Ouedraogo would be an ideal signing
Ouedraogo ticks so many boxes for Newcastle. He's been hailed as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe, and even though he's far from the finished article, he's got a high ceiling.
The Magpies already have a decent German contingent with Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade at the club, so they could certainly help the youngster integrate and settle (if Big Nick is still here next season, that is).
It's certainly not going to be an easy task with Liverpool and Bayern at the table, but if we're genuinely showing the most interest, that could count for something, especially after tracking him for two years.
Rumour Rating: 7/10 - He's been on Newcastle's radar for a while, he's also been aware of our interest for two years, and that will make him feel awnted if we make our move. The competition could be fierce, and the price may be off-putting, but we expect an attempt will be made at least.
