Dedić signs! - Official announcement video, full details and first words

Newcastle United have this morning announced their sixth signing of the summer, finally securing a deal for a much-needed full-back.

Amar Dedic has completed a £29.5m move from Benfica, penning a five-year deal at St James' Park, taking the No.37 shirt and reuniting with former boss Matthias Jaissle.

The Bosnian international, who turns 24 today, worked with Jaissle at FC Liefering and Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, and offers the German an athletic, aggressive, and technically proficient full-back capable of playing down either flank.

Dedic reveals Jaissle factor

Amar Dedic was quick to praise new boss Matthias Jaissle when discussing his decision to join Newcastle United, admitting the German's presence was a "big factor" behind the move.

The versatile full-back also spoke of his excitement to play in the Premier League and in front of Newcastle fans at St James' Park.

"It's a special feeling and a really big honour for me to join Newcastle United. I'm really happy to be here and can't wait to start playing for the club and the amazing fans.

"Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me. We know each other well, he knows what I can bring on the pitch and I'm really happy to be playing for him again.

"Playing Premier League football at St. James' Park is going to be really special. Every game feels like a big occasion, with an amazing atmosphere. I'm really excited to get started."

Dedic follows Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Lukas Hornicek, Ewen Jaouen and Aladji Bamba through the door this summer.

Full-back department now looking set?

I suspect Newcastle and Jaissle will now be happy with their options in full-back positions and ready to prioritise a tough-tackling midfielder and creative No.10.

Not only does Dedic offer cover down both sides of the pitch, allowing him to compete with Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, we have Lewis Miley who is also more than capable of filling in at right-back.

Leo Shahar, Mason Miley and Dylan Charlton are other options after taking their opportunities over pre-season, while Malick Thiaw has filled in at right-back before.

Our left side could ideally do with another option, but I suspect Jaissle will now prioritise the arrival of a midfielder general and quality attacker over the coming fortnight.
