Ewen Jaouen passes medical with £18m move to Newcastle now complete

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Ewen Jaouen, according to reports.

The 20-year-old French goalkeeper had been strongly linked with a move to Tyneside in recent weeks before things started to gather pace over the weekend.

Stade Reims agreed a fee with Newcastle late last week, which at the time was believed to be in the region of £24 million, but subsequent reports put the actual figure closer to £18 million.

It was reported that Jaouen would fly to Newcastle on Monday to undergo a medical and finalise the deal, and while we've not seen any photographic evidence of his arrival, which is very strange given our fans' penchant for playing paparazzi, reports have claimed that the deal is now done.

Journalist Dominic Scurr posted on X on Tuesday night that the medical is complete and the move is done, and all that we're waiting for now is official confirmation.

We are hoping for clarification on Jaouen's role

Hopefully this means that at some point today (Wednesday), we'll get our first announcement video of the summer. Let's hope that they're better than last year's efforts, which seemed very low effort compared to the past. Although, given how many of the signings turned out, in hindsight it seems about right.

We may get some clarification on what Ewen Jaouen's role will be next season too when we get to hear from Eddie Howe and Ross Wilson.

Our feeling is that the 20-year-old isn't being brought in to go straight into the starting lineup, but may be the No. 2 choice behind Nick Pope as things stand, though we expect that will change before the season starts, too.
