Federico Fernandez spotted back at Newcastle United after retirement from football
A familiar face popped into the Newcastle United training ground on Saturday.
Former Newcastle defender Federico Fernandez was back in the North East of England on Saturday and the 37-year-old paid a visit to his old stomping ground.
The ex-Swansea City star paid a visit to The KNOX, which will certainly have looked a lot different to the last time he was there.
Fernandez left Newcastle United in 2022 to move to Spanish side Elche before moving on to Qatari side Al-Duhail and then on to Estudiantes in his native Argentina, where he finished his career in 2024.
Federico Fernandez was at The KNOX four years after leaving Newcastle
Fede Fernandez spent four years on Tyneside and grew into his centre-back role. Rafa Benitez brought him to the club after working with him at Napoli years prior.
Originally, Fernandez signed a two-year deal at the club, but his performances earned him another two years.
He left the club in September 2022 for Elche, where he spent just three months, making only one appearance before heading to Qatar.
It was good to see Fede back in the Toon
We at Blog Towers were big fans of Fede back in the day, so it was great to see him calling in to see how much things have changed.
That being said, we hope he doesn't have anything to celebrate tonight after the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.
Sorry, Fede, we love you, but we can't have Argentina winning this World Cup after all the blatant corruption.
