Jaissle issues Livramento and Jaouen injury update ahead of Millwall trip
Newcastle are back in action tomorrow night, travelling to Millwall in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup following last month's win over West Brom.
Following Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, part of Matthias Jaissle's press conference focused on our trip to The Den.
In this, he discussed potential rotation and our injury situation, discussing Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen in particular.
Tino won't start and Jaouen wait
Matthias Jaissle has revealed that Tino Livramento won't be ready to start at Millwall tomorrow night, while Newcastle are waiting on Ewen Jaouen's fitness after the Frenchman rolled his ankle in training last Friday.
Livramento made a brief cameo on Saturday in his first outing since a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth back in April, while Jaouen missed out with an ankle injury.
"It is too early to say on Tino. He was partially involved [in training] so we need to be smart with his progress now.
“We need to wait until he is 100% ready. He has huge potential, and we can't wait to have him back.”
"No (he won't be ready to start)."
On Jaouen's ankle issue, the former Reims star is facing a race against time to play after starting in our previous cup win over West Brom.
"We need to see. He twisted his ankle yesterday (on Friday), but we have a few days to make a decision."
Elsewhere, injured trio Dan Burn, Joelinton and Will Osula are all expected to miss out once again.
Jaissle on potential rotation
Jaissle sounded unsure if he will rotate at Millwall, with the German set to assess the players' recovery from Saturday's game before selecting his 11.
“There's always a fine line to make these decisions. I think it would be smart to wait and know how the lads are responding physically and mentally from that match, and then we have still a couple of days to make that decision. We want to come around further.
“We're aware of the schedule, also what comes afterwards, but I think the physical level already from the lads are getting better and better.”
After limited game time in our opening four games in all competitions, the likes of Jacob Murphy, Jacob Ramsey, Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba and Fabian Schar will all be pushing for starts.
Sean Steur is likely to come back into the side after a positive cameo over the weekend, while Ramsey will be looking to build on Saturday's late strike.
