Lewis Miley update - Newcastle injuries clearing up ahead of winnable run
Lewis Miley has received some welcome injury news ahead of Newcastle United’s return to action, with the midfielder given the all-clear to resume training.
The 20-year-old was withdrawn from England Under-21 duty last week after picking up a knock, but the latest update suggests there is no major concern surrounding the Geordie talent.
Miley given all-clear to return
Miley has been assessed by Newcastle United’s medical staff and has been cleared to resume training this week.
The local lad left the England U21 camp early after suffering a niggle in training, ruling him out of the Young Lions’ 0-0 draw with Slovakia in Stoke.
However, Lee Ryder reports that the issue was ‘no more than a precaution’, with Newcastle seemingly keen to protect Miley given his injury-hit few seasons, which have included a mixture of back problems and a broken foot.
According to The Chronicle, Miley will return to training at The Knox this week and is expected to be involved when Newcastle take on Coventry next Monday.
Squad at Coventry should look stronger
Ewen Jaouen’s hamstring injury suffered while away with France U21s is the latest concern, while Newcastle are also waiting for further news on Tino Livramento’s latest issue and Jacob Ramsey’s thigh problem, which has kept him out of the last two games.
However, there are plenty of more positive signs elsewhere ahead of a winnable run of fixtures that sees Newcastle take on Coventry (18th), Aston Villa (16th), Crystal Palace (15th) and Fulham (19th) in four of our next five league games, along with Everton at home.
Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez were back in training last week, while Dan Burn is pushing to return against Coventry. Amar Dedic, Anthony Elanga and Will Osula are also closing in on comebacks following a welcome break for Matthias Jaissle’s injury-hit squad.
And with good news now arriving on Miley, Newcastle could take a much healthier-looking squad into next Monday’s trip to face Frank Lampard’s Coventry.
