Lukas Hornicek signs! - Announcement video, full details and first Newcastle interview

Newcastle United's goalkeeper overhaul is now complete.

After opting against a permanent move for Aaron Ramsdale and recruiting Ewen Jaouen from Reims, we now have a Nick Pope replacement secured ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Lukas Hornicek has this morning completed a move from Portuguese side SC Braga, signing a five-year deal on Tyneside after Newcastle activated his £25.7m release clause.

The Czechia international becomes our fifth summer signing, following moves for Jaouen, Sean Steur, Bazoumana Toure and Aladji Bamba, 

Hornicek happy to sign 

Hornicek, 24, seems delighted to sign and has already linked up with this new teammates in our warm weather training camp in La Manga.

Discussing the move and the feelings he's had since signing, he said:

 "It’s a brilliant opportunity in a new league, which I’m very excited about.

"From the very first moment I arrived here, I received a fantastic welcome and really felt the warmth of the club.

"Everyone has been brilliant in helping me settle in."

With this announcement confirmed, all eyes will now turn to the unveiling of new manager Matthias Jaissle.

The German has signed his contract and is already in Spain, only for a slight paperwork delay on Al Ahli's side to delay his official appointment.

Here marks a new era for Newcastle United, both in coaching staff and playing squad, as this summer of change ramps up as we arrive into August.
