Matthias Jaissle on Woltemade loan, Fernandez-Pardo arrival and Ross Wilson
Matthias Jaissle has been speaking to the North East press pack this afternoon from the club's media centre.
The German has been looking ahead to Saturday's 12.30pm kick-off at home to Bournemouth, and taking questions on what proved to be a busy deadline day at Newcastle United on Tuesday.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo arrived in a £51m move from Lille, Nick Woltemade joined Juventus on loan, and a £15m bid was rejected for Jacob Murphy.
Jaissle: We'll watch Woltemade closely
Matthias Jaissle has hailed Nick Woltemade's quality and professionalism following his deadline day loan switch to Juventus.
He revealed that "honest discussions" took place, allowing for his late exit, but insists the club will be watching his progress closely as he backs to big man to score goals in Serie A.
“I really, really appreciate Nick as a player but also as a human being. He has quality both on and off the pitch.
"We have had really honest discussions but he has taken another challenge in a top league with a top club.
"We will be watching him closely, I’m really curious as to how he will get on. He is still our player. We will stay in close contact.
"“I wrote to him yesterday that I cross my fingers he will get the minutes he deserves and performs there. I’m optimistic he will shine at Juventus and score a lot of goals.”
Exciting Fernandez-Pardo must be managed
The boss then spoke glowingly of new recruit Fernandez-Pardo, hailing the 21-year-old's speed, versatility and progression at such a young age.
"He is fit", and has been training with the squad immediately, but it sounds like Jaissle will be managing his minutes to begin with.
"We worked hard on the deal, finalised it in the last hours, really pleased.
"For a young age, he is already showing a lot of strength on the pitch, that speed up front, he is versatile, gives us the freedom to adjust from match to match. This is something I like as a coach, that we are flexible.
"He is fit, he is training with us, it has been a while since he played a full 90 minutes, it is important for him to adapt. We will have a close eye on him and be smart with the load management."
Last but certainly not least, Jaissle spoke highly of Ross Wilson, who has done a superb job in the midst of a crazy summer, revealing his delight at securing so many top young talents with huge potential to grow on Tyneside.
"I am happy, a great job from Ross Wilson and his team. We are aligned on everything.
"We’ve had a really clear idea where we wanted to go this window. Bringing in younger signings with huge potential, I am excited to work with the players."
