Newcastle bid £20.7m for Zadok Yohanna in attempt to hijack Brighton move
Newcastle United have reportedly entered the race to sign AIK's teenage sensation Zadok Yohanna.
The Nigerian winger has impressed in Sweden, registering five goals and four assists in 18 games this season after his move from Nigerian side Icon Allah FA last summer.
The 18-year-old has now emerged as a target for Newcastle, according to Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg, but a deal could be difficult for the Magpies.
Brighton and Hove Albion already has an agreement in place with the teenager, although it looks like we’re making a late push.
Newcastle launch bid for AIK star?
There is a bit of light for Newcastle, however, as Brighton's agreement is only with the player; they have yet to agree a deal with AIK.
Swedish outlet Expressen claims that Newcastle have made an offer of £20.7 million for the teenager.
Writing on X, Florian Plettenberg claims a decision could be made very soon, so there's a chance this one could move quickly.
‘EXCL | Newcastle have entered the race for Zadok Yohanna. The interest is concrete. However, Yohanna and Brighton have an agreement in place, as revealed and 100% confirmed again.
‘Brighton are still in direct negotiations with AIK. Brighton are not giving up despite Newcastle and other clubs. A decision is expected soon.’
Newcastle should be able to agree terms with Yohanna
Newcastle will fancy themselves to be able to agree terms with Yohanna, although Brighton will be able to offer European football next season, which could be a clincher.
Although, at just 18, it's not yet known whether either Newcastle or Brighton actually has Yohanna in mind for the first team straight away, or consider him a project player who could be loaned out.
We expect more updates soon on this one, if the end of Plettenberg's post is anything to go by.
