Newcastle considering Niccolo Pisilli bid as Roma face FFP problems - Report
Newcastle United know all too well the perils of being on the wrong side of a league's financial regulations, but they certainly aren't above taking advantage of another club's woes.
The Magpies lost one of their brightest young stars, Elliot Anderson, in a desperate bid to avoid a points deduction for breaching the Premier League's financial rules. Anderson moved to Nottingham Forest for just £35 million after coming through Newcastle's academy. It's a move that has haunted the club ever since.
Despite this, Newcastle are contemplating inflicting a similar pain on the Italian side, AS Roma, who reportedly need to balance their books before the end of June as they are in a €60m hole.
Newcastle United could help out with a bid for Italy international Nicolo Pisilli, according to a report from romanews.eu.
Newcastle and Spurs want Niccolo Pisilli
The 21-year-old midfielder is reportedly attracting interest from Newcastle and Tottenham and with a valuation of €35 mllion (£30 million), a sale could half Roma's FFP problem.
Pissili has been included in Italy's latest squad after taking advantage of his opportunity in Roma's first team in the second half of the season. He went on a run of 21 consecutive games in the side and contributed a goal and two assists in the final few games of the season, which helped Roma qualify for the Champions League.
Newcastle are thought to be in the market for a new midfielder, and Pisilli is certainly in the right age range for Ross Wilson's new vision.
There could be something to this
Given Roma's financial woes, the fact that they have Champions League football and Newcastle doesn't may not be as big an issue as there's pressure on the Serie A side to sell.
Sandro Tonali could also play a big part in bringing Pisilli to Tyneside. The duo could strike up a partnership at the club level that could then translate into the National side, which could be very appealing to both players.
It could be a good move for Newcastle as it seems like Pisilli has plenty of potential, and if Spurs are our only Premier League opposition for his signature, we've got a good chance after their last couple of seasons.
Rumour rating: 7/10 - We've gone high as Roma's situation and Pisilli's profile all make this one sound very plausible. We do have reservations about the source, though. We're just being optimistic.
