Newcastle hold talks with Dusan Vlahovic's father over free transfer - Report
We told you, didn't we? Dusan Vlahovic is looking increasingly likely to leave Juventus this month, which means Newcastle United will be linked.
When it was reported that talks between Vlahovic and Juventus had broken down, we wrote that we should brace ourselves for being linked with the Serbian striker.
Here we are, just a few days on, and a report from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy has claimed that Newcastle, along with Chelsea, obviously, have made a move already.
The report claims that Juventus and Vlahovic's father will hold one more round of talks this week to try and come to an agreement in a 'do-or-die' attempt to thrash out a deal.
Newcastle hold talks with Vlahovic's agent?
Dusan Vlahovic actually wants to stay in Turin, but he feels he should be paid €8m a year, but Juve are only offering €6m.
Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Vlahovic's father, Milos, has already held talks with Chelsea and Newcastle, among other clubs, and that the talks are being taken seriously.
It's expected that a compromise is very unlikely to be reached in the crunch talks with Juventus this week and that Vlahovic will become a free agent at the end of the month.
We still can't see it...
Once again, though, we don't see there being much to these rumours at all. Newcastle and Chelsea are prime candidates for the foreign press to use to try and force a transfer issue. Chelsea has a tendency to bid for anyone with a heartbeat, while the misconception of Newcastle being the 'richest club in the world' still holds water overseas.
Newcastle aren't looking for a striker as a matter of priority anyway, and they aren't going to shatter their wage structure to bring in an injury-prone forward like Vlahovic.
Additionally, the fact that neither Newcastle nor Chelsea will be playing in Europe next season means a move to either of those clubs would be unlikely, although we can never really rule out Chelsea.
Rumour rating: 2/10 - There's a historic link between Newcastle and Vlahovic, but that's where it ends for us. His wages will be astronomical, and it feels like our name is being used to get eyes on his availability.
