Newcastle told Lamine Camara price tag after Monaco talks - Report
Newcastle United are very keen on signing AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara this summer.
The Senegal star has emerged as a top target for Newcastle going into the summer window, although they do face some intense competition from Liverpool.
It was recently reported that Newcastle had entered talks with Camara's people, although no update has emerged since.
Newcastle will face a huge battle for the 22-year-old after he has impressed for Monaco this season, but it seems the Magpies are doing what they can to get a jump on things.
Monaco wants £43m for Lamine Camara
Meanwhile, a report from French outlet Foot Mercato has revealed what they believe is Monaco's asking price for Camara, and while not cheap, it should be within Newcastle's reach.
The Magpies will have a reduced budget this summer due to failing to qualify for Europe, but they are also expected to sell Anthony Gordon, who will bring in a decent chunk of money as he's valued by the club at around £75 million.
Monaco wants €50 million (£43 million) for Camara, so if Newcastle does sell Gordon, they'll not be holding on to that money for long if they get their way.
Gordon's sale could fund a move?
The sale of Gordon practically funds that move, although Everton will be entitled to a cut of the profit from his sale, it should still leave enough left over for a swoop for Camara.
One issue Newcastle faces is the sheer number of players they need to sign this summer. The approach is expected to be one of many bargains rather than big, expensive purchases, so it really depends on what the cut-off point is for what's deemed acceptable to spend on one player.
We still feel this will be a moot point, though. Liverpool will be a much more attractive prospect to Camara, even after their stunning drop off this season. At least they have European football to offer, and as much as it makes me gag to write this, their legacy is much bigger than ours, and that goes a long way with players, especially foreign players.
Add to that the fact that they will be able to afford to throw more money at him to ensure he signs, our chances don't look great.
