Newcastle won't be signing Dayann Methalie or Fikayo Tomori - Report

Newcastle have just over a month to do transfer business, with the summer window open until 11pm on 1st September.

So far, we've landed one goalkeeper (Jaouen), two midfielders (Steur and Bamba) and a winger (Toure), losing two big names in Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

More incomings are essential, with signings needed from front to back if we're to head into the 2026/27 season ready to compete, starting with our home clash with Liverpool on 23rd August.

However, despite our need for additional defensive cover, two reported targets will not be arriving on Tyneside in Dayann Methalie and Fikayo Tomori.

Methalie won't be a Mag

Earlier this year, Craig Hope revealed that Newcastle had been taking a close look at Toulouse star Dayann Methalie, only for injuries to disrupt the full-back's season.

Several months on, the 20-year-old looks set to join Sunderland instead, with the Mackems now closing in on a €30m deal for the French left-back.

Did Newcastle miss out? Not according to Lee Ryder, who insists that Newcastle haven't been pursuing Methalie, insisting there's been no bid or consideration to sign him in recent months.

Tomori talk not true?

On the subject of moving on, it looks like Newcastle have no plans to pursue AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori.

The Italian media tipped Newcastle to sign the former Chelsea man just a few days ago, but it sounds like he is NOT a target.

This comes from The Athletic, who insist in their latest DealSheet piece that Newcastle aren't pursuing the 28-year-old, despite all the talk in Italy.

So, two to forget, although we do still require full-back cover, with us currently lacking options down left and right to support Hall and Livramento.
