Nick Woltemade scores again in Europe as Juventus seal dramatic late win

Nick Woltemade was on target for Juventus last night, scoring a well-taken volley as the Italian side came from behind to beat Celta Vigo 2-1 in the Europa League.

The Newcastle loanee equalised in the 58th minute before Randal Kolo Muani headed home a stoppage-time winner, giving Juventus two wins from their opening two European games.

Woltemade's volley sparks Juventus comeback

Hugo Alvarez had put Celta ahead after 18 minutes, and Woltemade missed a chance to level before the break when he fired over after getting onto a long ball from Guglielmo Vicario.

He made no mistake when the ball dropped to him after the break. Teun Koopmeiners' cross took a deflection off Marcos Alonso, and Woltemade reacted quickly to steer a right-footed volley into the bottom corner.

Kolo Muani then met Andrea Cambiaso's cross in the 92nd minute to complete Juventus' comeback in Spain.

It was Woltemade's first goal from open play for Juventus, having scored a penalty in their 5-0 win over NEC last month.

Two goals in two European starts

Woltemade has now scored in both of his Europa League starts, while all four of his Serie A appearances have come from the bench, as we noted in this week's Loan Watch.

Speaking after the win, he said:

"I'm pleased with the goal, it's definitely something that gives a striker confidence, and I want to keep improving to help the team even more."

There's been plenty of criticism of Woltemade coming out of Turin, but he needs to do his talking on the pitch and take whatever chances he gets. Last night was a good response.

That's two goals in two starts now for Big Nick. Maybe that's the key, Spalletti... you just need to start him.
