Nico Gonzalez signs! - Announcement video, full details & first words from £50m man
It's official; Newcastle United have completed the signing of Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City.
The Spanish midfielder arrives in a deal worth £50m, with Newcastle paying an initial £47m plus a further £3m in potential add-ons.
Nico, 24, has penned a long-term deal on Tyneside, leaving the Etihad after 18 months in Manchester.
Watch the club's announcement video below, just before the player was unveiled on the pitch, followed by Nico's first words after signing.
Nico "excited" by Newcastle project
“I’m really happy to be here at this amazing club. I’ve only heard top words about the club and the city, so I’m really excited to live here and to be part of this project.
“I love the black and white shirt already and I can’t wait to start wearing it on the pitch for this club.
“I’ve experienced playing at St. James’ Park twice with Manchester City and it was really tough. The atmosphere was amazing and the fans are so passionate. I can’t wait to experience that as a home player.”
A serious signing for Toon
This really does feel like a top-tier signing for the club, and a reminder of the pull Newcastle still have despite no European football following last season's 12th-place finish.
Nico played 41 times under Pep Guardiola last season and has previously been called a 'mini Rodri' by the former Man City manager.
The former Porto star and Barcelona Academy graduate brings composure on the ball, quality and that protective screen to our midfield. It feels like a statement arrival that perfectly complements young talents like Sean Steur, Lewis Miley and Aladji Bamba.
Welcome to the Toon, Nico!
