Sam Alabi pushing for Newcastle breakthrough after training with Liverpool and Man Utd duo
Sam Alabi was snapped up by Newcastle United in 2023, taking the youngster from Oldham Athletic's academy.
Alabi was impressing so much at Oldham, and many clubs were interested in the England U17 captain, but it was Newcastle who won the race for the midfielder.
He's been touted as one to watch already at Newcastle, so it was no surprise that he's been handed a contract at the club.
After turning 17 on 9th July, Alabi was offered his first professional contract at Newcastle United, with the young star taking to Instagram to share his delight.
Sam Alabi is excited for the new season
Alabi said he was 'delighted' to sign his contract at Newcastle in his post on Instagram, where he’s recently shared clips of him training with Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong and Man Utd’s Patrick Dorgu.
"Delighted to have signed my 1st professional contract and commit my future to @nufc. Difficult end to last season through injury but happy to be back.
"Only the beginning and my full focus is on the season ahead and to continue from the progress I’ve made. Another big season ahead an excited for what’s to come. Let’s get to work."
Speaking to the club’s official website, Alabi has also discussed his relationship with Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock, believing he’s gelled with some senior players as he pushes for first team minutes this summer.
"My qualities and desire got me there as I was putting in the work every single day in training. I think I gelled with the senior players which was a big thing.
"I speak to Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey. Joe messages me to offer information on how I can improve and keep improving.
"When I got injured at the start of the year, Jacob messaged me and told me to keep focussed so when I get back, I'm ready for pre-season because, hopefully, I can go away with the first team.
"As the season starts, I want to kick on, push into the first team and make my debut. If it wasn't for my injury last season, I believe I could've done that so, this season, I know I have to push. It's all down to me.
"I'm always pushing for more. Last season, I was on the bench for the first team but I always want more. I want to make sure that I've done everything I can and put my all into it."

How long until Sam Alabi breaks through?
It's unlikely that we'll see Alabi in and around the first team next season, but he's definitely one we'll have our eye on for future appearances.
He may be involved in pre-season as Eddie Howe does like to get a close-up look at the academy prospects.
It's definitely a name to keep an eye out for in Newcastle's new-look youthful squad.
