WATCH: Matthias Jaissle speaks to media ahead of Newcastle vs West Brom

Matthias Jaissle's Mags are back in action tonight, taking on the Baggies in the 7.45pm kick-off at St James' Park.

West Brom arrive after back-to-back wins in the Championship, while Newcastle opened the 2026-27 Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool last Sunday.

But what has new boss Jaissle had to say ahead of the match?

Part of Sunday's post-match press conference featured questions about today's game at St James' Park, where Jaissle was quizzed on West Brom and his trophy aspirations.

Alongside questions on potential rotation, the boss was asked if last year's trophy parade scenes were shown to him prior to his appointment.

Jaissle admitted they "tried to convince me with that footage", but insisted it wasn't needed to sell him the opportunity to take over on Tyneside!

Changes incoming?

It's tough to predict, but I would be surprised if Jaissle didn't use tonight's game to get a good look at his squad.

Not only are there new signings to bed in, like Aladji Bamba, Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure, but he has to assess those on the fringe of last Sunday's first team.

Nick Woltemade, Jacob Ramsey, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock come to mind in that camp, while Under-21 talents like Leo Shahar, Sean Neave and Miodrag Pivas will be eager to impress after some minutes over pre-season.

Mason Miley was superb at right-back against Strasbourg, although it's not clear if he'll feature after playing the majority of the Under-21s' defeat to Spurs on Monday.
