We all know what comes next for Newcastle after England failure
Newcastle United fans will be waiting for the stories linking Eddie Howe with the England job to roll in today.
If it hasn't happened already by the time this story goes live (it was written on Wednesday night), we're expecting the stories to start coming in saying that Thomas Tuchel will step down or be sacked and Eddie Howe will take over at England.
The difference this time is that there's a decent chance it could happen.
It may be a bit reactionary to sack Thomas Tuchel after getting England to a World Cup semi-final; after all, that's as far as Gareth Southgate ever got them, and he didn't get sacked, but Tuchel's game management against Argentina was abysmal.
Will Thomas Tuchel still be England manager next month?
The German may even step down in embarrassment, although he doesn't actually seem the type to do that.
If something does happen with Tuchel's position, though, we all know that the Newcastle manager will be the first name mentioned in the media.
Eddie Howe has his detractors amongst the Newcastle fanbase, but outside of our club, there's a great admiration for the 48-year-old, and many would love to see him leading the Three Lions.
We wouldn't blame Howe for thinking about it
Despite ruling himself out of the job many times, we're sure that he does harbour a desire to one day manage his national side; he's just too involved in the club side of things for now.
However, with how things are going for Newcastle of late, he may see this as the perfect time to jump ship. Sections of the fanbase have turned against him, his best players are being sold and replaced with kids, and his most important player is angling for an exit.
Any lesser man would have walked already, so would we really blame him if he left to take up the England job? Probably not. We would be gutted, though, as Newcastle fans. As England fans, we'd be pretty happy, though as having an English manager back in charge just makes sense.
