Wor Flags share sneak-peek of Kevin Keegan tribute ahead of Newcastle vs Liverpool
Sunday will be an emotional day at St James' Park for several reasons.
There'll be hope and anxiety in the air as we wait to see how Matthias Jaissle's new-look Newcastle get on against Liverpool, while plenty of frustration will be aimed at Alexander Isak on his first game back on Tyneside since forcing a move to Anfield last summer.
However, the strongest emotion will come before kick-off, where the club and all four corners of St James' Park will pay tribute to the late, great Kevin Keegan, who passed away aged 75 last month following a battle with cancer.
Both clubs will come together to remember King Kev, and Wor Flags have shared a sneak-peek of the tributes in place, alongside their own personal message to those attending Sunday's game.
Wor Flags reveal Leazes tribute
This shows Keegan's name spread across the Liverpool away end, with a giant number seven set to be displayed below in the home section of the Leazes.
Wor Flags add that 'every single seat' inside St James' Park will be involved in Sunday's tribute, with fans asked to raise the cards on their seat when the PA announcer instructs.
Preparation has begun ahead of our display on Sunday. Every single seat in the ground will be involved, so please raise the card on your seat when instructed by the PA announcer.
We’re delighted to include the away end as part of the display and we’d like to thank @SpionKop1906 for their support.
Newcastle statement on Sunday's tribute
On Wednesday, Newcastle released the following update on Sunday's tribute, asking fans to arrive early, confirming a planned pre-match applause and that players, past and present, will honour the great man.
On Sunday, we will be paying tribute to Kevin Keegan as we host Liverpool in the first match of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
The football world was devastated by the news of Kevin's passing in July, and the outpouring of love for one of our greatest players and managers has been remarkable and profound.
Thousands of supporters created a memorial for Kevin that was seen around the world, reminding everyone of the deep affection held for him in Tyneside and far beyond.
At St. James' Park on Sunday afternoon, both clubs will come together to honour Kevin, acknowledging a legendary figure loved by both sets of supporters.
Please arrive early
We are asking supporters to arrive early in order to be part of honouring Kevin's life.
A video tribute will be played on stadium screens looking back at Kevin's legendary playing and managerial career.
There will also be stadium display by Wor Flags that includes home and visiting supporters.
On the pitch, a centre-circle mosaic will be laid after the players' warm-ups that is made from shirts left at St. James' Park by supporters in his memory.
A minute's applause
Immediately before kick-off, the players will gather around the centre circle for a minute's applause as we remember Kevin and celebrate his contributions to both clubs.
Both teams will warm up wearing shirts dedicated to Kevin, and the teams will wear black armbands during the match.
Players Past and Present Honouring Kevin
Kevin's family and a number of former players will be special guests of the club for the match, including members of Kevin's famous Entertainers side.
A short private ceremony will be held between both clubs and Kevin's family before kick-off.
Matchday Programme
Our matchday programme will feature Kevin on the cover, and will contain a range of tributes alongside exclusive features from those who knew him best.
