Newcastle miss out on Europe as Man Utd shock Man City in FA Cup final

In a result that sums up Newcastle United's 2023/24, Man Utd have beaten Man City 2-1 in the FA Cup final to end our hopes of competing in Europe next season.

As we all knew heading into today's 3pm kick-off, Newcastle needed a Man City win to ensure our seventh-placed finish saw us qualify for the Europa Conference League.

However, Erik ten Hag's side pulled off a shock win at Wembley, meaning they qualify for the Europa League alongside Tottenham, with sixth-place Chelsea moving into the Europa Conference League.

Pep Guardiola's title-winning side hadn't lost in any of their last 35 games and were facing an out-of-sorts Man Utd side who ended last season in eighth. But it sums up our season and a campaign full of setbacks that we've now missed out at the final hurdle.

A tough one to swallow, meaning we won't be playing European football next season, but we have ourselves to blame after failing to beat Brighton (1-1) and Man Utd (2-3) in two of our final three games.
