Newcastle sign Malgorzata ‘Gosia’ Grec - The fifth summer recruit for NUFC Women
Now I don’t want anyone to think it’s all roses and sweetness on the NUFC Women’s side of the house. The move to Gateshead International Stadium has not gone down well and many are upset at the seemingly “own goal.” More because it was dropped without warning than the actual move.
However, I think when the dust does settle on that issue, the fans will buy into it and the Lasses side of things will continue to grow and gain momentum. What will certainly help is the recruitment that has so far taken place for sure.
Whilst the men continue to be frustrated in getting players to improve the squad and build on last season’s success, the Lasses continue to build their squad ahead of a 2025/26 promotion push.
And whilst in no way shape or form being disrespectful to those that have left or who may not be guaranteed first team football, every signing seems to have improved Becky Langley’s options. Well at least on paper anyway!
The latest addition is very much the type of player many of us thought we would land. An international quality player from abroad. Welcome then Malgorzata ‘Gosia’ Grec to the Toon!
A full Polish international having played 13 times for her country so far, she’s arrived from the highly rated Premiere Ligue French Division where she’s played for the last three seasons.
Prior to that, she was at St. Polten in the OFB Frauen Bundesliga in Austria after leaving her native land and Gornik Leczna where she played for three seasons before beginning her journey that has now brought her to Tyneside and NUFC Women.
At 6-foot-tall, she appears to be a commanding and authoritative Centre Back that is also comfortable with the ball at her feet. A very exciting signing indeed and one that the fanbase is already looking forward to watching.
Becky Langley had this to say about her newest recruit, the 5th signing of a very productive and successful summer so far.

‘Gosia’ herself is delighted to have put pen to paper and to be joining the NUFC Women’s programme and project, stating.
"I feel very excited to be a part of this big club, and that's such a pleasure for me, and I cannot wait for our first game.”
"Once I heard about the project here, it was amazing, and all of the people here are very ambitious, so for me, the choice was very clear. Our objectives are very clear here to get to the WSL."
The newest recruit may have to wait a season at least before she gets that opportunity to play in the WSL and test herself against the Nation’s finest and strongest but she will have a chance to play against WSL opposition this season in The League Cup.
United have been drawn in very attractive Northern Group A of the competition alongside fellow WSL2 side Nottingham Forest as well as top flight WSL opposition Everton who they drew 1 – 1 with in last season's competition and powerhouse Manchester City.
