Newcastle's PSR signing stars in 4-1 win vs Barcelona as Toon receive cheeky tweet

It's been a strange few years for Odysseas Vlachodimos.

After shining as Benfica's No.1 out in Portugal, the Greek stopper earned a move to Nottingham Forest, where he barely played before moving to Newcastle in a PSR-driven deal that saw Elliot Anderson head in the other direction last June.

During his one season on Tyneside, he didn't make a single Premier League appearance, with his only outing coming in our Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon at St James' Park.

Then, over the summer, the 31-year-old sealed a loan move to Sevilla, where he has just broken into their starting 11 ahead of former Aston Villa stopper Orjan Nyland over the past few weeks.

In his fourth straight start for the La Liga side, Vlachodimos played a key role in Sevilla's shock 4-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday night, making seven saves and seeing Robert Lewandowski miss from the spot to make it 2-2.

Sevilla survived relegation by one point last season, finishing way down in 17th, but last night's big win over Barca sent them up to sixth as they look back to get into those Europe spots after a tough 2024/25.

The Spanish side then poked fun at Newcastle after the game in a post-match tweet, saying: "The only @NUFC keeper to beat Barcelona this season 😉", accompanied by a photo of Vlachodimos celebrating!

On a personal level, Vlachodimos may have one eye on a permanent move to Sevilla, also hoping that his club form will get him back in as Greece's No.1 after his lack of minutes on Tyneside saw him lose his spot in the national side.
