Newcastle seriously interested in signing Said El Mala - Big claims from Germany
This summer looks set to be a big one for Newcastle United, no matter how we end the 2025/26 season.
A new goalkeeper looks set to arrive, full-back cover is essential, midfielders have been tracked, with Kees Smit highly coveted in January, while attacking reinforcements will also be needed after certain summer signings have failed to have the desired impact so far.
On that, it will be fascinating to see if Newcastle refresh their winger options, with each of Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy having periods of poor form throughout the current campaign.
A young versatile option would be welcomed, and someone who ticks that box has been linked via the German media this week.
Toon eyeing another German gem?
That man is Said El Mala, with Kicker reporting that Newcastle United are showing serious interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old, claiming ourselves and Chelsea are set to make 'strong bids' for the winger.
The FC Koln star has eight goals and four assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances this season and is knocking on the door of the German national team following his impressive displays.
El Mala stands over six foot and is also attracting interest from Brighton, who have a strong track record of landing top young talent.
Time will tell if Newcastle make a move, but it would continue the theme of German talents arriving on Tyneside after deals for Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade were struck last summer.
Watch the teenage winger in action below, showing a glimpse of why the youngster is considered one of the top young prospects in the Bundesliga.
