Aleksandar Stankovic situation slightly clearer as newcastle ponder move - Report
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Serbian international Aleksandar Stankovic for a while, but there were a few obstacles in the way.
When Newcastle were originally credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, he was a Club Brugge player, performing very well in the Belgian Pro League.
Newcastle were reportedly contemplating a move, but Inter Milan, where Stankovic came through the ranks, held a buy-back option in his contract which would allow them to bring him back for just £19.85m if they felt he'd developed enough - or if they felt they could sell him on for a greater profit.
Inter have exercised that buy-back option and Stankovic has returned to the Serie A side; however, that's not necessarily where he'll stay.
Newcastle remain interested in Aleksandar Stankovic
As reported by The Chronicle, Stankovic remains a target for Newcastle, especially with Sandro Tonali looking likely to leave.
Inter are expected to demand €40m (£34.5m) for the defensive midfielder, securing themselves a tidy profit on the deal.
Should Tonali leave in the coming weeks, then Aleksandar Stankovic will certainly be a name to look out for.
Newcastle need to sell and replace Joe Willock
Regardless of whether Tonali goes, we feel Newcastle could do with adding more depth to the midfield, while we also believe that Joe Willock should be moved on.
There are a few midfielders Newcastle have been linked with this summer, with Monaco's Lamine Camara reportedly high on the list, but we're yet to see any momentum on this front.
A goalkeeper and a replacement for Anthony Gordon appear to be taking up much of Newcastle's focus right now, but after a rapid start to the window, things have gone a bit too quiet for our liking.
