Alfie Hutchison on fire at Newcastle as young Mags continue superb start
Newcastle United Under-18s continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Alfie Seldon and Sam Alabi were on target as Chris Moore’s side made it back-to-back league wins, with striker Alfie Hutchison also continuing his excellent goalscoring form as he made it EIGHT for the season already.
Newcastle U18s cruise to victory against Burnley
Newcastle took the lead through Seldon, who has just signed his first pro deal, with the 17-year-old continuing his own impressive start to the campaign by netting his fifth goal in six Under-18 Premier League appearances.
England youth international Sam Alabi then doubled our advantage just before half-time, putting Newcastle in a commanding position heading into the break.
Hutchison then added a third in the closing stages to round off a convincing afternoon for Newcastle, although the young forward missed a penalty which would have given him another opportunity to add to his tally.
Chris Moore’s side comfortably saw out the win, recording a third successive clean sheet in all competitions as they continued their push near the top of the Under-18 Premier League North table.
The result leaves Newcastle second in the 15-team division, level on points with leaders Manchester City and firmly in the mix at the top of the table.
There were also appearances for summer arrivals Kyle Healy-Matthews and Christian Boothe, alongside highly rated midfielders Muawiya Ghanem, Jayden Kouossu and Charlie Robinson.
Hutchison up to eight goals this season
While Seldon continues to impress with five goals in his opening six league appearances, Hutchison is quickly establishing himself as one of Newcastle’s most exciting young attacking prospects.
The 17-year-old has now scored eight goals in all competitions this season, including seven in the Under-18 Premier League North, following his latest effort against Burnley.
Born in Dunfermline, Hutchison made his Scotland Under-19s debut last month and signed his first professional contract with Newcastle in February.
Interestingly, the teenager initially arrived from Rangers as more of a winger, but he is now making a name for himself in a central striking role.
With eight goals already and the Under-18s challenging near the top of the table once again, Hutchison is just the latest Academy recruit making strides and could soon be promoted to our Under-21s if his superb form continues.
The young Mags are next in league action on Saturday, October 24, when they travel to face Middlesbrough in an 11am kick-off.
