Newcastle announce Alfie Seldon deal after superb start to 2026/27
Newcastle United youngster Alfie Seldon has signed his first professional contract with the club on his 17th birthday after an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign.
The teenage winger has caught the eye with his performances at youth level, earning opportunities with the Under-21s after a prolific start to the season.

Seldon has started the new campaign in excellent form, scoring five goals in his opening six Under-18 Premier League appearances for Newcastle.
The left winger’s impressive performances have also earned him a step up to the Under-21s, making his debut during last month’s EFL Trophy victory against York City and scoring in a National League Cup defeat to Solihull Moors a fortnight ago.
It has been a memorable period for Seldon, who has been part of Newcastle’s Academy setup since the age of seven.
Having progressed through the club’s youth ranks, Seldon joins fellow Academy talents like Sam Alabi, Mason Miley, Kacey Wooster, George Mair and highly-rated winger Kyran Thompson in penning pro deals this year.
Seldon reacts to first professional contract
Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website after putting pen to paper, Seldon expressed his delight at securing his first professional deal and praised the opportunities he has received at the Academy.
“I’m delighted to sign it. When you’re young, working your way through the Academy to sign that first professional contract is what you’re aiming to do.
“I’ve got lots of strong relationships with the Academy coaches as well as my teammates. I also feel like you get a lot of opportunities. I’ve been able to play with the Under-18s when I was 16 years old, playing in the UEFA Youth League with the Under-19s last season and recently playing with the Under-21s.
“My performances have been good and I think I’ve deserved it. I’m showing everyone the right side of me. I’ve gained a lot of confidence in the last 18 months which has helped me to get where I am. I back myself a lot more compared to what I did when I was younger.”
Seldon also reflected on his recent step up to the Under-21s, admitting that scoring his first goal at that level was a particularly satisfying moment.
“It’s been a great couple of weeks. The step up into Under-21s football is harder so it felt amazing to score my first goal for the team. It shows I am capable of doing it at a higher age group and not just with the Under-18s.
“It was a good experience playing in front of a crowd [in the EFL Trophy at York] against professional players. After my start with the Under-18s, I thought I deserved that chance and I don’t think I could have made my debut in a better competition against a strong men’s team.”
With five goals already to his name at Under-18 level and a first professional contract secured, the challenge now for Seldon is taking that output to Under-21 level, pursuing a potential loan move and pushing for involvement in our senior side in the years to come.
